The Southland Corporation was incorporated in 1961. The company is the owner of 7-Eleven stores. In the 1980s, the company ran into financial difficulties and was rescued from bankruptcy by the Japanese company, Ito-Yokado, its largest franchisee and took control of the company. Its American division, has is headquartered in the One Arts Plaza building in downtown Dallas, Texas.
